Description
SAE 863 Bronze Bar – Cored | Super R-Lube® is a high-performance manganese bronze alloy specifically designed for applications that require exceptional strength and durability under high loads and speeds. Composed of a combination of copper, manganese, aluminum, and iron, this alloy exhibits outstanding mechanical properties, including a tensile strength exceeding 110,000 PSI. The cored version of this bronze bar offers additional versatility, allowing for easier integration into complex assemblies where weight reduction and enhanced performance are crucial. In addition to its mechanical strength, SAE 863 provides good corrosion resistance, making it an ideal material for both industrial and marine applications.
Mechanical Properties:
- Tensile Strength: Over 110,000 PSI
- Yield Strength: 62,000 – 65,000 PSI
- Elongation: 10-12% (in 2″)
- Hardness: Rockwell B 75 – 85
- Density: 7.4 – 7.6 g/cm³
Corrosion Resistance:
SAE 863 offers good resistance to corrosion, particularly in marine and industrial environments where exposure to moisture, chemicals, and saltwater is common. This ensures long-lasting performance and reliability in challenging conditions.

Applications:
- Builders Hardware:
SAE 863 is commonly used in brackets and other structural hardware where strength and durability are crucial. The cored design allows for reduced weight while maintaining the necessary strength for demanding applications. - Electrical:
The alloy’s mechanical strength and good conductivity make it suitable for electrical components and switches, where reliable performance is essential. - Fasteners:
Super R-Lube® Bronze is ideal for manufacturing screw-down nuts and other fasteners that require high strength and resistance to wear and corrosion. - Industrial:
This alloy is widely used in industrial machinery for components such as bridge pins, bushings, cams, gears, and high-strength machine parts. Its ability to operate under slow-speed, heavy-load conditions makes it particularly valuable in hydraulic cylinder parts, large valve stems, and wear rings. The cored version allows for efficient material use and improved performance in weight-sensitive applications. - Marine:
In marine applications, SAE 863 is highly valued for its corrosion resistance and strength. It is commonly used in boat parts, clamps, covers for marine hardware, rudders, and other components exposed to seawater and harsh marine environments.
